The extraordinary and very central location of the city of Lucerne, directly on the beautiful Lake Lucerne, is an ideal starting point for excursions into nature and the mountains. A few of the most well known mountains in central Switzerland can be found here: the Titlis, the Rigi (the king of the mountains) and Lucerne's own home-mountain, the Pilatus. In the summer months, experience a hike in nature, a bicycle tour, a boat trip on Lake Lucerne or a ride up the Pilatus mountain on the steepest rack railway in the world. In the winter months, enjoy skiing, snowboarding or tobogganing in one of the numerous surrounding ski areas. Also those who enjoy cross-country skiing will not be disappointed!
